Since 2001 the former coal-mine and coking plant
›Zeche Zollverein XII‹ owns the status as a
World Heritage Site of the UNESCO.
The mine shaft had been built 1928-1932 by leading industrial architect Fritz Schupp, supported by engineer Martin Kremmer. Designed in Bauhaus style, the mine shaft had been considered
as the ›most beautiful coal-mine of the world‹.
The coking plant of ›Zeche Zollverein XII‹ had been built 1957-1961, again by architect Fritz Schupp.
